Don’t Be a Square: 10 Tips for Betting on Football

4. “Common wisdom says that over the course of a long football season the average man or woman will pick approximately 50 percent winners. “Teams play inspired ball at home. “Thus, the bookies love and cherish the squares.”

Although exact figures are impossible to calculate, according to Jimmy Vaccaro, widely considered to be Las Vegas’ most influential bookmaker, Americans probably wager more than $50 billion a year on NFL and college football combined. Giving 11 to 10 odds is almost always the cheapest price you can give.”

“The standard bet requires gamblers to lay $11 for every $10 they want to win with the extra $1 or 10 percent known as the juice,” Konik says. “In trying to bamboozle potential customers, many services make claims about having scouts all over the country that give them inside information and promise 70 or even 80 percent winners, as if the bookmakers were the biggest suckers in the world. But, when you’re struggling, that’s when you want to reduce your bet size until you get out of your slump. “As for me, the best bet in football is betting the point spread or over/under totals on individual games. In fact, sports bettors must pick 52.4 percent winners just to break even.”

“The bookies fear and despise a tiny coterie of professional bettors known as ‘the sharps,'” Konik says. Focus on Conferences – “The best way to win money betting football is to develop a niche and follow it closely,” Moseman advises. So underdogs tend to be slightly undervalued – except by the sharps.”

Even Hollywood is not immune – think Two for the Money with Al Pacino and Matthew McConaughey.

Michael Konik, a sports writer and best-selling author of The Smart Money (Simon & Schuster 2006), explains why it is so hard for the recreational gambler to win at betting on football. Slim underdogs regularly win outright. There is a wealth of information on the Internet; it is just up to you to find it and research it daily.”

2. “There will be more discrepancy in the numbers at different sports books.

So, how much are we gambling each football season?

“A square or recreational player might have a vague plan, but after two Corona’s he will definitely run to the window and make a hasty decision on the USC-Notre Dame game because he wants to be involved in the party atmosphere,” Vaccaro says. These books change their numbers according to the betting patterns of their customers, so it is not entirely uncommon to find two or three point differences in the lines.”

9. The only touts bettors should consider are the ones who talk about the long haul and realistic winning percentages, which are in the upper 50 percent to lower 60 percent range.”

10. “Most people prefer to bet on the ‘better’ team, the one that will probably win the game. “The sharps are usually members of a betting syndicate privy to the most up-to-date information on injuries, weather, game plans, and, most important, the real power of the teams involved. There are almost an infinite number of scenarios that can happen in a single football game. To be a successful sports bettor you need to operate with a clear mind.”

5. If you like an underdog, it is best to get your bet in as late as possible, where there is heavy action from squares on favorites.

Certainly not back into the pockets of the average bettor. “In the NFL, a game will often be totally turned around by one or two plays, or even a single penalty. Thanks to the juice, the only one who profits in this scenario is the bookmaker. “He is not jaded by teams and does not bet with his heart. “If you become an expert on a smaller conference like the WAC, you have a good chance to beat the house because sports book operators do not have the time or resources to follow this conference the way you can. Avoid Exotic Bets – “For very skilled handicappers, with a proven track record, there can, at least in theory, be value in betting parlays,” says Gordon on the type of bet that combines two or more individual wagers. He loses year after year, according to Dan Gordon, a top football handicapper and author of How to Beat the Sports Books (Cardoza Publishing 2005). “When you’re in a good rhythm and winning, you want to increase your bets. Not all games work according to this formula, but it is usually a good rule of thumb.”

And remember, in the immortal words of “Fast” Eddie Felson, “Money won is twice as sweet as money earned.”

Moseman agrees and especially likes home underdogs. Research Football Services – “Most sports services realize that most people who sign up with them are insecure,” Gordon warns. Also, being “in action” can make a dull late-afternoon game (Buffalo vs. The NFL, for example, will have very similar numbers at most of the betting shops you visit. The payout is just the same as far as he is concerned. Bet at the Right Time – “The sharp bettors tend to bet underdogs, and they tend to bet them early,” Moseman says. If North Texas is his best bet on a Saturday then that is his bet.

So, how much should you bet a game?

“In an average season, fewer than one bettor in twelve turns a profit,” Gordon says. If you want advice about sports betting, find someone who has a successful track record.

While these tips don’t guarantee you’re going to win, hopefully they can make you a little less square and a little more sharp in your picks this season. He is not taken in by being involved in USC-Notre Dame just because it is the biggest watched game of the day.

Another difference between squares and sharps is how they approach betting on game day.

1. And why not? We have unconditional love for the sport and betting $50 or $100 on a game adds an extra rush of adrenaline. “The key to proper money management is to be sure not to bet more than you can afford to lose.”

But that doesn’t mean you have to bet like a “square” and throw away your hard-earned money.

Betting on football games; whether it’s through a local bookie, an offshore Internet site or a Nevada casino (still the only legal place in America to make football bets), most of us have done it or know of someone who has. Consider Underdogs – “In the long-run, it’s easier to win betting on the underdog,” Konik says. “Because alcohol clouds your judgment and usually helps you to make rash decisions you usually wouldn’t otherwise make. Chasing losses is the fastest way to the poor house.”

So, is it possible for the average square to become a little sharper in making football bets this season? According to professionals like Vacarro, Konik and Gordon, amateur bettors have the best chance to win if they demonstrate a little patience and follow the 10 basic tips below.

Also, it’s probably a good idea to disregard advice from the myriad of ex-players and football experts you see on television each week.

And where does all that money go?

“A sharp or smart has a plan of what he wants to do,” says Vaccaro, the director of sports operations and public relations at Lucky’s Race and Sports Book in Las Vegas. Big underdogs often find ways to cover the spread and they rarely give up toward the end of a game in front of the home crowd.”

“The biggest mistake that amateur bettors make is they increase their bets when they are losing,” Sevransky says.

“There is probably no better bet in sports than playing an underdog at home,” Moseman says. “Squares usually bet later in the week and they tend to pick the favorites. “Over the course of several seasons, the percentage of bettors who turn a profit is minuscule.”

.

“Most people with an understanding of football gambling bet between 3 percent and 5 percent of their bankroll, increasing when they win and reducing when they lose,” Vaccaro says. Oakland comes to mind) seem like the Super Bowl.

7. “If you listen to their advice, you are sure to lose. Locks Don’t Exist – “Anyone who has watched sports for about a month realizes that the difference between winning and losing, especially against the spread, can be infinitesimally small,” Gordon says. Drinking and Gambling Don’t Mix – “There is a reason the casinos in Las Vegas supply you with free drinks while you are gambling,” Moseman says. If you are going to go with a favorite, it is best to place your bet early in the week when the sharps are laying heavy money on the points. Otherwise, you’re better off doing your own research.”

But even though the math says it’s virtually impossible to win on a consistent basis, Americans continue to bet on football. “For example, if you have a $1,000 bankroll for the season, you should generally bet no more than $50 a game.”

Newspapers and popular sports sites routinely publish the lines or point spreads for games, and football insiders offer their picks to viewers each week on ESPN and other cable networks.

“The talking heads on TV know nothing about sports betting,” says Sevransky.

Ted Sevransky, a well-known Las Vegas gambler and sports consultant with Sportsmemo.com, agrees.

“A square is the average, unsophisticated gambler whose decision making is based on hunches, media manipulation, or spurious systems that cannot overcome the bookmaker’s inherent mathematical advantage,” Konik explains. Shop For Numbers – “Another important aspect of betting on football is shopping for the best number,” Moseman explains. On college you will be able to find different lines at different sports books. The only locks that exist are those that need keys to open them.”

However, Konik adds that there are some bettors who actually know how to beat the bookies. Money Management – “This is without a doubt the most important aspect of betting on sports and possibly the most neglected,” says Morey “Doc” Moseman, a professional gambler and sports consultant with DocSports.com for nearly 40 years.

8.

3. Avoid Chasing Bets – “Don’t do it! There is no worse way to mismanage your bankroll than to chase your bets after a losing day,” cautions Moseman on the dangerous practice of trying to immediately win back your losses. They use powerful computers that can process millions of bits of data and produce a more accurate point-spread line than the bookmakers.”

Rocky Marciano – InfoBarrel

They had one daughter, but Barbara miscarried when Rocky was away, and wasn’t able to have any more children, although the two did adopt a boy (Rocky Jr.). Rocco inherited his father’s toughness, for he survived a deadly bout of pneumonia when he was two. Sometimes he would cover his chin and hands with St. She and her friends prayed the Rosary at the child’s bedside and waited. Pierino’s exposure to mustard gas during combat changed his life, but not his toughness. He backed Walcott into the ropes. Rocky always apologized, but the fouling continued.

On August 31, 1969, Marciano planned to interrupt his business circuit and fly back to Florida to celebrate his forty-sixth birthday with his family. Rocco refused but eventually he tired of having his name misspelled and mispronounced, and allowed his name to be shortened to Rocky Marciano. He even used a coat hanger to stuff money inside curtain rods.

Rocky ran from an early age. Augustine before defending his title, and said: “The biggest thrill I could think of would be an audience with the pope?”

“In this age of the anti-hero and the non-hero, Rocky Marciano was the hero with whom the mass of Americans could readily identify, the hero who surmounted all difficulties by dint of hard work, dedication and perseverance. Then he was cut from the Chicago Cubs farm system. He even had a role in a movie. One sportswriter said Marciano brought the “austere, sackcloth-and -ashes approach of a monk” to his training.

Marciano died without a will. Rocco slept in the living room with the windows open, even in the winter, as if in defiance of his bout with pneumonia.

As he continued to successfully defend his title, Marciano gradually drew respect from critics. He usually didn’t pay anything for his cross-country trips: no plane fare, hotel fare, or meals. Lena’s doctor said she could have no more children; this put a fine edge on her concern for Rocco’s health.

After serving as a GI in World War II, Rocco played minor league baseball. Rocky slowly became a better boxer, but it was his punching power that kept him undefeated. Yet he used a wire to try to get coins back he used to make telephone calls. Until Rocco put Brockton on the national map, his hometown was best known for its shoe factories. Anthony for her son’s recovery, promising to give up her diamond engagement ring if Rocco recovered. The 1963 issue of Boxing Illustrated claimed: “Marciano’s knockout blow packs more explosive energy than an armour-piercing bullet and represents as much energy as would be required to spot lift 1000 pounds one foot off the ground.”  Although this sort of ‘science’ was probably conducted by zealous Marciano fans, it is undeniably true that Rocky hit really hard.)

Maybe Rocky ran to avoid an estranged relationship with Barbara. The pilot and his two passengers were instantly killed. The pilot landed the plane in a field in Newton, Iowa, and rammed into a lone tree in the middle of the field. Although he left thousands (some claim hundred of thousands) of dollars stashed away or buried underground, none of it was found to aid Barbara and the children, who were impoverished after Rocky’s death.

Rocky’s last big payday was a computerized fight with Muhammed Ali in 1969. An obituary in his home state of Massachusetts read:

His upbringing was steeped in Italian customs and traditions. His friends said the only thing Rocky was afraid of was being poor. Rocky Marciano was champion.

The answer: Rocky Marciano, heavyweight boxing champion from 1952 to 1956, when at age thirty-three he retired with a perfect record (49-0, with 43 knockouts). Equally unique, Marciano never came out of retirement to challenge subsequent champions, a temptation very few ex-champions have overcome, much less succeeded at.

Lena prayed to St. A few minutes later she came out complaining: “What is he, crazy? He didn’t want anything to do with me.” Marciano seemed more comfortable in the company of clergy than actresses. The sparring film would be spliced together to match the computer outcome of the fight – a closely guarded secret that would not be revealed until “The Superfight” aired in theaters.

Everett M. At the time many children died of pneumonia, but Rocco eventually recovered, and Lena kept her promise.

Marchegiano went to New York and met Al Weill, a boxing manager who tried to Americanize his name. He was a near-classic example of the triumph of classic virtues (Boston Herald Traveler, September, 1969).”

The doctor was wrong. Rocco’s biggest limitation was arms so short they were almost stubby. Rocky seemed too busy to be home.

Outwardly Marciano’s life after boxing was quite successful – unlike many fighters, he kept his money and his wits. The pilot had not flown at night before, became confused by the bad weather, and attempted to land in a field rather than the Newton airport.

Far behind on points late in the fight, Rocky needed a knockout to win. The people of the world should be informed of this boy’s character and personality.”

In 1976 Sylvester Stallone began his “Rocky” franchise. Or the estrangement may have developed over Rocky’s running, which may have sprung from a preoccupation with money. Ali later said that Marciano punched so hard he was sore for days after. Marciano spent hours at his opponent’s hospital bed, and in church praying for the man’s life. He said if the man died he would quit fighting. He would interrupt his training schedule to attend Mass. Walcott collapsed to the canvas and was counted out. It hit Walcott’s jaw with the sound of a baseball bat. Anthony before his first title fight, read The Confessions of St. Yet his retirement years revealed a man who seemed simple, but often was not.

He was born Rocco Francis Marchegiano (Mark a-jahn-o) on September 1, 1923, the second son (the first died shortly after childbirth) of Pierino and Lena Marchegiano, first generation Italian immigrants who came to America after the first World War. He knocked out nine of his early opponents in the first round. The nicest thing about being champ, he said, “is that people like you.”  Everyone but boxing experts, who found Rocky’s style too crude to suffer. Then Rocky and Ali sparred 70 rounds for the camera, simulating different endings to the fight. There was bad weather and the plane ran low on gas. When he wasn’t playing sports he was running and exercising.

* * *

Marciano’s character was on display in his first fight with Walcott, which was a classic. Walcott’s experience kept Marciano off-balance and sometimes made him look ridiculous. Skehan, Rocky Marciano, Biography of a First Son, Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston, 1977.

Marciano was “a kind and decent man.”, He was “inherently a decent, righteous and truly wonderful guy…His innate decency and wholesomeness shine through in a dedicated glow.” Or: “We never cease to be amazed at the humility of Rocky Marciano…he treats everyone if they were the celebrity and he the awed little guy.” Another writer called him “probably the humblest of heavyweight champions.”  Said another: “He reminds you of a great, friendly collie …with the grin of a shy fellow happy to be recognized, at last, as a member of the gang in good standing.” He was “the gentlest athlete I have ever known,” and again: “a man of simplicity and sincerity.”

After knocking out an old Joe Louis, Rocky got a title shot. Walcott bounced off and threw a hard left hand. His parents loved opera, ate Italian food, and had wine with dinner. There would be good food, a nice check for a few words, and still enough time to fly back for his birthday. Rocky kept coming, even after Walcott knocked him down, closed his left eye, and opened cuts on his face that required fourteen stitches to close.

Not that there is anything particularly Catholic about being a teetotaler.  It’s just that Marciano, though intelligent, was a very simple man who never forgot where he came from. Rocky hadn’t fought or trained for fourteen years. He was awkward in the ring. He was famous, successful, and well thought of.

He and Lena settled in Brockton, a small city twenty miles south of Boston. It was an incredible run. He retained his public life, crisscrossing across the country to give speeches, participate in benefits, and conduct business. As a boy Rocco was preoccupied with his physical condition. Asked about his reaction when flying shrapnel hit his jaw and snapped off some teeth, Pierino replied, “I just spit them out and kept coming.” . He had no boxing skills. Barbara missed Rocky, and drank too much. Several opponents quit boxing after being knocked out by Marciano. And he could be incredibly tight with a buck. The famous sportswriter Jimmy Cannon observed that Marciano trained “like a man practicing a holy ritual.” Before fights he would slip away to a church or chapel to pray. Marciano’s body was found pinned beneath the wreckage. At the time boxing was a diversion, a way to make a few bucks to help out his family. Ali was in retirement too, after having his title stripped for refusing the draft. He was undersized for a heavyweight. He made sure the people who invited him paid for everything.

Five months after Marciano’s death “The Superfight” debuted in theaters. Ali complained about his ‘loss’, alleging the computer was made in Alabama.

He rarely saw his wife and children; or his parents, brothers, and sisters. He boarded a small, single engine Cessna. His marriage was strained. On those occasions Rocco reached opponents with his right hand, however, they fell down and didn’t get up.

While sportswriters criticized Marciano’s boxing shortcomings, no one criticized his character, as the following quotes show:

Marciano’s determination in the Walcott fight showed the world the new champion’s character and personality. He was invited to the White House to meet the President. Rocky never wrote anything down, he tried to keep track of his loans in his head, and sometimes forgot who owed him, and how much. Although he enjoyed being champion, Marciano remained unchanged. Yet even after he had enough money Rocky went after more. She smoked too, and developed a glandular problem. He golfed with priests, helped promote parish functions, even lunched with Cardinal Spellman. Life magazine called him “pure of speech” and “a clean living boy.” He was elsewhere described as “astonishingly innocent,” and “totally without deception, totally without guile.” He didn’t drink or smoke; in fact, when a host at a party for Marciano in Brockton offered the champ a drink, Rocky replied, “If you don’t mind, I’ll take an apple.”

Which heavyweight boxing champion in the last century knelt on his knees to pray to St. The computer’s result: Marciano knocked out Ali in the thirteenth round. The man recovered, but never fought again.

(An experiment was performed on Rocky’s punching power. Rocky was a brawler. Marciano went back into training and bought a toupee. At the last minute Rocky decided to squeeze in an appearance at a steak house in Des Moines, Iowa. The champion was Jersey Joe Walcott, a ring veteran most experts picked to beat Marciano easily. After the Rock retired he kept running.

Rocky was generous with people who were down and out, often giving them unsecured loans that were rarely paid back. Before the fight Marciano met with a priest, who after their meeting said: “That boy is no ordinary prizefighter, he is one of the most dignified, straightforward people I have ever met in my life. His fanaticism about physical conditioning,  along with his determination and punching power, led to an unequalled record for a heavyweight champion: forty-nine professional wins, no defeats, forty-three victories by knockout. He would never be a classic boxer, but he worked unceasingly at improving his craft, and trained relentlessly. Once, as a joke, the reigning sex symbol, Jayne Mansfield, was smuggled into a room where Marciano sat, alone. And Brockton loved him right back, at least in part because many of them became rich betting on Rocky’s fights.

Perhaps it was his simplicity that allowed him to retire after beating everyone worth fighting. Rocky didn’t trust banks, either, so he hid his cash: in the ground, inside toilet tanks, in light fixtures. Rocco was in his twenties, when most fighters hit their peak. They all lived in a two bedroom apartment. Marciano stepped inside and beat Walcott to the punch with a short right hand that traveled maybe eight inches. He  hit his opponents on the break, after the bell, and below the belt. It is difficult to win a fight when you can’t reach your opponent. The Marchegiano’s had five more children after Rocco: Alice, Connie, Elizabeth, Louis, and Peter. His wife, Barbara, was unable to have the large family Rocky wanted. Even as champion he came to the ring in a robe bearing the colors of BrocktonHigh School (even though he dropped out in the tenth grade). Jude’s oil while in his corner waiting for the start of that fight.

An investigation into the crash of the Cessna in NewtonIowa cited pilot inexperience as the cause of the crash. Once he hit a man so hard he almost killed him. Stallone credited Chuck Wepner’s losing effort in a fight with Muhammed Ali as the inspiration for the film, yet the similarities of Rocky Balboa to Rocky Marciano are numerous and obvious.

Cybergambling returns — and this time it’s legal

“Blackjack, slots. “If we are unable to determine that you are in New Jersey, you will be unable to play on Virgin Casino,” the site notes. “The technology is rolling out this week.”

“It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out,” said Laurence DeGaris, associate professor of marketing at the University of Indianapolis and an expert in Internet culture.

What happens online, stays online

Six other firms, including popular companies like WSOP.com and Ultimate Poker and other casinos like Caesars and the Golden Nugget, participated in the “soft play” launch of online gambling in New Jersey in November, the state’s Department of Gaming Enforcement Director Dave Rebuck said during a recent conference call.

Legalizing gambling across the U.S. They play against the house at Virgin Casino, and they can finance their wagers with debit cards, credit cards, or in person.

Not everyone agrees with the odds. Others predict the overall U.S. H2 said the industry was worth $33 billion in 2013, with $4.5 billion coming from mobile gambling on iPads, iPhones and smartphones.

“Last year, before a single state authorized legal online gaming, Americans spent nearly $3 billion on illegal, unregulated offshore gaming sites. U.K. will generate – in addition to tax revenue from the proceeds at casinos – approximately 22,000 new online gambling-related jobs, Freeman testified.

“There will be many games to play online in New Jersey,” Fenton told FoxNews.com. In online casino gambling, it’s about the game more than the bet.”

Many Americans simply ignored the ban, he noted, as the country did during Prohibition in the ’20s.

Prohibition failed – again

Last month, the president and CEO of the American Gaming Association testified before Congress and urged legislators to repeal their 7-year-old ban on Internet gambling.

Players must be at least 21 years old, and either reside in New Jersey or be in the state when they place their bets. If your phone is off, or if you’re too near state borders, you may not be allowed to play.

Mega-entrepreneur Richard Branson’s Virgin Group is the latest entry in online gambling, teaming with the Tropicana Resort in Atlantic City and online game maker Gamesys to bring online poker, blackjack and slots to New Jersey this week.

- Geoff Freeman, president and CEO of the American Gaming Association

Globally, the business is even more lucrative. Chris Christie validated the vice in the waning weeks of 2013, saying he hoped to rake in $1 billion in casino revenues this year, of which the state will collect a 17 percent tax.

“Those from other states can play, but they cannot wager,” Fenton said. Gov. “Blackjack and poker have a very human element that’s lost online. “The federal government has tried the prohibition approach – specifically the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 and the Wire Act – and through multiple Justice Department crackdowns on offshore operators as well.”

Freeman said the Department of Justice has relaxed its views toward online gambling since 2011, and this could open up even more opportunities in the U.S. But new laws across the nation are rolling the rules back — and lawmakers think they’re holding a royal flush.

‘Last year, before a single state authorized legal online gaming, Americans spent nearly $3 billion.’ . That doesn’t translate online,” DeGaris told FoxNews.com. “That’s where I see the huge potential in online gambling, and I reckon the U.S. 10. Virgin could be holding a full house, but it could also fail before the flop.

Congress banned online gambling in 2006. To put that into further context, Americans accounted for nearly 10 percent of the entire $33 billion worldwide online gaming market,” Freeman said.

To prevent unauthorized access, Virgin Casino physically locates gamers’ cellphones periodically. Nevada and Delaware also began offering some online gambling last year, but New Jersey is the first state to “fully” legalize it, said Lee Fenton, the chief operating officer of Gamesys.

“Slots and roulette are very visceral games, lots of bells and whistles. will catch up to the rest of the world and allow it at some point.”

And New Jersey isn’t alone; eight other states have bills in the works that will allow Internet gambling as well. — notably sports betting.

“In sports gambling, it’s about the bet,” DeGaris said. Not just poker.”

But analysts are mostly rolling with Christie and the casinos. market research firm H2 Gambling Capital, which focuses on the gaming industry, predicted about $300 million for New Jersey’s online casinos — or about $45 million in tax revenue, according to the New York Times. market could be worth as much as $9 billion in the coming years as other states, including California, legalize online wagering.

“Prohibition simply does not work,” Geoff Freeman told a House panel on Dec

A Bet You ALWAYS Win – How Sports Betting Arbitrage Works

No one knew for sure which way it would go. Are the odds always as good as in the example? No.

The advent of online betting sites meant that the punter could suddenly check prices at a multitude of different locations very quickly, and open bets at those that had ‘slipped’ out of line. The same thing applies to betting arbitrage, typically on sporting events. Simply exploit the difference. Each online betting site has to maintain it’s own ‘book’, and it would be a strange world indeed if they all had the same number of punters, all betting the same way and the same amount, meaning they all had to offer the same odds!

Generally, you can bet risk free on any sporting event with either 2 or 3 outcomes, such as Football, Baseball, Boxing, Basketball, Tennis, Soccer, Golf, Snooker, Cricket, Hockey, Ice Hockey and Darts. Whatever happens to price, they make a profit on the difference between the original 2 prices. Nothing wrong with that, you think? Not if the bet is 100% guaranteed? But what about if thru the vagaries of the internet, you manage to get one side of the bet on at the right odds, but not the other? You are left holding a LARGE position. Also, accounts of this size are viewed with some suspicion by the bookies – they will want to know that you aren’t (for example) money laundering.

At the same time, your fave US bookie might have given you odds of 6/4 on Bush! That means if you took both bets, you are betting (risking) $1,600, but will win $2,000 WHATEVER the result! Easy money or what? Bank a cool $400 for nothing.

A Bet You ALWAYS Win – How Sports Betting Arbitrage Works

 by: Kevin Schultz

So ok, you know the risks, but how does it actually work? Let’s go back to the US election between Bush and that Herman Munster guy, the Democrat fella with the long face (Kerry? Curry?). For example, in a boxing match, the US champ will, of course be favored by the US bookies, but the UK challenger will be top bet at the UK bookies. But what you could have done is put on a bet with UK bookie Coral that Kerry would win, and the odds they would give you would have been 6/4 (i.e. a US 1.5 – bet $800, return $2,000).

How often does this happen? Quite a lot. As you recall, it was close. They then exploit this difference by selling in one location and buying in the other.

Betting arbitrage is a method of creating a bet that has a zero risk – in other words, you always win! The concept of ‘arbitrage’ comes from the financial world, and describes the activities of traders who find two different places offering the same trade, but at different prices. Sometimes, the differences are deliberate. That is why you need large accounts.

So how does 100% winners, no risk sound? Groovy, huh? But there are, of course, problems. By exploiting the inefficiencies of some brokers, a win can therefore be guaranteed. Usually the difference will be small. The main problem is the size of the account you need to make a useful profit. The difference between the odds offered by 2 bookies, and exploited by an arbitrageur, may only amount to a fraction of a percent, meaning that you may have to wager several thousand dollars to win 5 bucks. It works even within the US too – a Varsity football match, for example, may find the out of state team offering you an opportunity to arbitrage within the home team state depending on the demographics of the customers using two US online bookies.

A Beginners Guide To Betting On Greyhound Racing

Online betting sites with “racebooks” set the greyhound racing betting odds.

The odds are available through the race and are created by the sports books. Many times, these prizes are outlined with the bet that is being made, allowing even beginners to determine the potential prize that is available with the bet that has been made.

The important odds to consider are the first, second and third for most bets that are being made. There are often multiple dogs that are involved in the race and the bets are made on the position that the dogs are going to arrive over the finish line. These odds are going to determine the likelihood of a certain dog coming in a certain place through the race.. It is important to realize that the odds given for the race are accurate and the odds makers have years of experience in determining the results of the race and therefore the odds should be considered accordingly.

As one of the most popular types of animal racing in the world, greyhound racing betting has many different types of bets that can be made with many different types of outcomes. Choosing between the many greyhound racing websites that are available is simple, when the reputation of the website is compared with the races and the bets that can be made.

Using the odds and learning about the dogs and the specifics of the sport can be a great way to get into greyhound racing betting online.

How can you determine what the prize will be once the bet has been made? The prize that will be given to the successful bettor depends on two factors; the amount that has been bet and the odds that are placed on the bet that has been made.

Many online racebooks allow the bettor to take part in betting practices without actually being in the local area, as they can showcase the matches online with the use of the streaming video that can be presented to clients, allowing the clients to watch the races that are being bet on, with ease.

Using these two factors, greyhound racing betting sites will determine the prize that is going to be awarded

Offshore oil rig jobs are like any other career – you start at the bottom and work your way up. You will be doing a lot of hard, dirty work and heavy lifting. Offshore drilling companies like Transocean are still deploying new oil rigs and hiring workers. Instead, go for a certified trade like an electrician or mechanic. In this line of work, you want to look for entry level roustabout jobs. You will also get the chance to help the derrickhands and drillers, giving you the experience to be promoted to a driller yourself.

For most jobs on an oil rig, university degrees are useless pieces of paper

Review: Richard Gere too good to ignore in ‘Arbitrage’

His rapt, watchful performance is a thing of toxic beauty. Credit Jarecki, whose combustible directing debut gives “Arbitrage” the charge of a thriller and the provocation of a moral fable. Docs run in the Jarecki family, with half brothers Andrew (“Capturing the Friedmans”) and Eugene (“Why We Fight”) making notable contributions to the genre. As the son of two commodities traders, Jarecki has Wall Street in his DNA. No Academy love, not even for his sinister brilliance in “Internal Affairs,” “American Gigolo” and “The Hoax,” or for the battered heart he brought to the cheated-on husband in “Unfaithful.”

Jarecki knows the territory. For proof that we’re in financial hell, look around. True, this territory has been covered from Wall Street to last year’s “Margin Call.” But Gere and first-time director Nicholas Jarecki put a tantalizing spin on what goes on in the head of a fraudulent hedge-fund manager when he decides to stick it to the rest of us, including his own family.

There’s enough plot here to stuff a miniseries or three, yet “Arbitrage” never descends to bland and predictable. Fraud puts pressure on Robert’s skill at deceiving wife Ellen (Susan Sarandon), French mistress Julie (Laetitia Casta) and chief accountant Brooke (Brit Marling), who also happens to be his daughter. And the glamour in his field of vision — cheers to cinematographer Yorick Le Saux (I Am Love) for the sheen and composer Cliff Martinez (Drive) for the seductive mood — is tempting enough to make us all complicit.

Gere’s Robert Miller is the picture of unflappable elegance. But Gere gives us a window into the soul of a man who finally realizes that even money will no longer help him lie to himself. At 62, he is at the peak of his powers. Wearing the trappings of wealth like a second skin, Gere invites us to see what Robert sees. Jarecki has an eye for the telling detail, not surprising given his start with the 2005 documentary “The Outsider” (about rogue director James Toback). That’s when NYPD detective Michael Bryer (Tim Roth) smells a rat and Robert’s world begins to unravel.

Story highlightsRichard Gere stars as a fraudulent financier in the filmCritic says Gere’s performance is “a thing of toxic beauty”The movie also stars Susan Sarandon and Laetitia Casta

It’s instructive to note what a killer actor Richard Gere can be when a movie rises to his level.

“Arbitrage” is such a movie, a sinfully entertaining look at the sins committed in the name of money. Good job on that, since he’s just lost $400 million in a bad copper-mine investment, and if he can’t cover it up and unload his company on a major bank, his career will go kaput along with his fortune. She can’t rock his composure. But Robert keeps his cool until the sudden death of one of these women has him dodging a possible murder rap with the grudging help of Jimmy Grant (a terrific Nate Parker), the son of the family chauffeur and the only black man in Robert’s circle of white privilege. Gere digs so deep into this flawed tycoon that we come to understand Robert’s actions without for a minute forgiving them. And Gere nails every nuance in a role that holds up a dark mirror to the way we live now. Despite his box-office success in crowd-pleasers such as “An Officer and a Gentleman,” “Pretty Woman” and “Chicago,” Gere has long been underrated. And Gere knows the man, inside and out. And it resonates in his exceptional screenplay, which potently captures the gleaming seduction of Robert’s world and the fear that festers underneath.. Gere’s performance in “Arbitrage” is too good to ignore. Watch him in the scene when Sarandon — in full, feisty flower — hits Robert with a lifetime of resentments. It’s an implosive tour de force.

Like the best movies, “Arbitrage” persuades us to ask tough questions about ourselves

You take into consideration outside effects on the price like hurricane season and the war in the Middle East. People were worried prices would go up because of the conflict, but it wasn’t effecting the price of oil. “You can, however, bet on the professionals that do it.”. So you are betting on futures, not stocks.”
