When all is said and done in the World Championship of Fantasy Football Platinum League, it was a quarterback and a running back found on the waiver wire that sealed the deal and $150,000 for Fantasy Assassins.
Potentially lost in the glamour of points being scored by Peyton Manning, Dominic Rhodes and Dallas Clark on Thursday night was the 26.35 points posted by quarterback, David Garrard. Garrard, drafted by Being Bill Parcells (Peter Korian) was acqjured by Fantasy Assassins in week 5 for $418 off the waiver wire, and man did he come up huge when it mattered most for Fantasy Assassins.
Another $13 was well spent on the waiver wire a week later when Cedric Benson was acquired to the roster of Fantasy Assassins. Playing behind running back's like Brian Westbrook, Chris Johnson, LenDale White and Jonathan Stewart, Cedric Benson wasn't going to see a lot of playing time for Fantasy Assassins barring an injury to one of their top backs. In Benson's first stint of action for Fantasy Assassins in week 6, Benson carried the ball 4 times for a whopping 6 yards against the N.Y. Jets. But all would be forgiven in Week 16.
In only his second week of action during the entire season for Fantasy Assassins, Cedric Benson went off for 171 yards on a ridiculous 38 attempts. And while he didn't find the endzone, the 17.10 points represented his 3rd highest output for the season.
As any fantasy football owner would expect, at least hope, Fantasy Assassins big guns delivered in the Championship game. Westbrook went for 17.60 points on 45 yards rushing and 71 yards receiving. Chris Johnson got things going in the second quarter against the Steelers and tallied 15 points. Jason Witten caught 5 balls, finding the endzone one time in racking up another 19.70 points. And then Matt Prater, the Denver kicker, tacked on 12.30 points that Fantasy Assassins probably didn't expect but nevertheless accepted in what turned out to be 146.45 to 123.65 victory over CC's Hitters.
King of Queens, still second guessing his decision to go up against CC's Hitters in the semi final game, posted 165.60 points and defeated Soldierfish and captured the 3rd place award of $25,000. Soldierfish walked away with $10,000 for finishing in fourth place.
Forever Harlem won $10,000 in the Platinum League Toilet Bowl after defeating Team Reuss / Popo who still took home $5,000. Team Schinker won 6th place after beating Winning Chickens, taking home $2,500.
The inaugural season of the $25K Platinum League was an overwhelming success and sparked the interest of many throughout the 2008 fantasy football season.
