Nyjer Morgan charges mound, benches clear in Florida by Shane.Luttrell (2010-09-02 13:04:07)
Update: Benches cleared in Wednesday's game between the Washington Nationals and the Florida Marlins when Nats' OF Nyjer Morgan charged the mound at Florida's SP Chris Volstad. Volstad pegged Morgan earlier in the game and in Morgan's next at-bat Volstad threw behind him. Morgan then charged the mound and connected with a left hand to the face of Volstad before getting clotheslined by Marlins' 1B Gaby Sanchez. There were a grand total of six ejections including both managers. No suspensions have been issued yet by the MLB but surely they will be coming soon.
Fantasy Update: This is particularly frustrating for fantasy owners, as the regular season of fantasy baseball is nearing a close. Morgan has been a base-stealing machine and will leave fantasy owners hurting. The next series between the Nats and the Marlins is September 10-12 at Nationals Park.
Jays to shut down Morrow by jsavino (2010-08-30 18:35:35)
Update: Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Brandon Morrow will be shut down in the near future in an attempt to limit the amount of work he puts in for the remainder of the year.
Fantasy Impact: Morrow has been an innings eater this season, and he had pitched 143 1/3 innings this year which is double his career high. Morrow will have one last outing and then be shutdown.
Dickey could end up back in NY by jsavino (2010-08-30 18:31:22)
Update: Mets Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey will be arbitration eligible for the first time in his career this coming winter despite having nearly five years of service time, but wishes to return to the New York Mets in 2011.
Fantasy Impact: Dickey is making less than a million dollars this season in New York, and it is certain that he will get a raise. Look for Dickey to be back in New York next year.
Rams' Jackson won't play Thursday by Shane.Luttrell (2010-09-02 19:04:31)
Update: stltoday.com is reporting that St. Louis Rams' RB Steven Jackson won't suit up for tonight's preseason finale against the Baltimore Ravens. QB A.J. Feeley won't be playing either, so expect QB Sam Bradford to see significant playing time.
Fantasy Impact: Jackson hasn't seen much playing time this preseason anyways because the Rams are trying to keep him healthy so this comes as no surprise. This does make Bradford have to work harder, though, with no real running threat to keep the defense from sitting on the pass.
Ochocinco prepares his first celebration by Shane.Luttrell (2010-09-02 15:44:00)
Update: Cincinatti Bengals' WR Chad Ochocinco is already up to his usual antics. He recently wrote on his Twitter page that if he scores a touchdown against the New England Patriots in their season opener on September 12 at Gillette Stadium, he will run up and fire a shot using one of the Patriots' Minutemen rifles. Ochocinco has already been fined by the NFL for tweeting during a recent preseason game.
Fantasy Impact: Ochocinco never disappoints when it comes to entertaining the fans. The real question is will he score and if he does, will he be able to figure out how to use rifle without hurting anyone? With T.O. in the mix, Cincinnatti touchdown celebrations will probably rack up a good amount of money in fines from the NFL.
Laurent Robinson could have breakout year by Shane.Luttrell (2010-09-02 15:31:10)
Update: St. Louis Rams WR Laurent Robinson is in the right situation to have the best year of his NFL career. He is in the fourth year of his NFL career (second with the Rams), and with WR Donnie Avery out for the year with a torn ACL, he will be the Rams' number one wideout.
Fantasy Impact: With a promising new QB in Sam Bradford and the offensive line improving with every game, Robinson could have a monster year. He has been plagued by injuries throughout his whole career, but if he stays healthy the 6'2" WR could put up some big numbers against teams on the Rams' weak schedule. He probably won't put up Andre Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald numbers, but he will see a lot of balls since there are really no other options at WR for the Rams. He is a great late-round pickup in fantasy drafts and is a solid third string option at WR.
