Lincecum roughed up by Robert.Nightengale (2010-03-11 18:38:58)

Update: San Francisco Giants SP Tim Lincecum was roughed up in spring training against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday afternoon. Lincecum threw 2.2 innings, giving up six hits, four runs (only two earned), two walks, and four strikeouts. "Stuff-wise I felt like everything was good," Lincecum said. "I think right now everything is just location. I just try to take something positive from each outing."

Fantasy Impact: Lincecum is taking advantage of spring training and not using his bad starts during the regular season. Although fantasy owners can't be pleased with his progress so far, Lincecum is working pieces-by-pieces hoping to be fully ready to compete by Opening Day.

Reyes out at least two weeks by Robert.Nightengale (2010-03-11 13:17:53)

Update: ESPN.com reports New York Mets SS Jose Reyes has been told to rest and refrain from athletic activity for two to eight weeks until his thyroid levels normalize. This announcement comes after a confusing week for Reyes on whether he was cleared to play or not. "It doesn't look good right now. We will have to prepare for that," said general manager Omar Minaya. Reyes was limited to 36 games last season due to a hamstring injury.

Fantasy Impact: This definitely drops Jose Reyes' stock from a top-5 shortstop to a top-20 shortstop. Reyes isn't guaranteed to begin playing for two months, and that puts a huge dent into his value. Reyes' draft selection would be a high-risk, medium-reward outcome. Hopefully he can return as soon as possible, the Mets need him to.

Todd Helton gets contract extension by Robert.Nightengale (2010-03-11 13:03:46)

Update: According to ESPN.com, the Colorado Rockies have given 1B Todd Helton a two-year contract extension. They agreed upon a two-year, $9.9 million extension that will run through the 2013 season. Helton has also agreed to defer $13.1 million of his $19 million salary in 2011 over a ten-year period beginning in 2014.

Fantasy Impact: Helton hit .325 with 15 home runs, 86 RBIs, and 79 runs scored last year and no reason to think he can't repeat that success in 2010. Helton is a top-20 fantasy player, which has his value boosted to the fact that he will play half of his games at Coors Field.

Tomlinson close to signing by Robert.Nightengale (2010-03-11 10:26:20)

Update: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, LaDainian Tomlinson met with Minnesota Vikings officials last night for dinner and will visit more with the Vikings today. However, if he does leave Minnesota without a contract, Tomlinson will meet with the New York Jets on Friday. Yet, Tomlinson is enjoying his visit with the Vikings and told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that he could 'possibly' sign with Vikings on Thursday. He said he has "heard what I like to hear" and that one of his agents made the trip with him.

Fantasy Impact: Tomlinson has a strong chance of signing with the Vikings, as he wants to win a championship, and is willing to accept a backup role to Adrian Peterson. Tomlinson wouldn't have the fantasy value that he has had before if he is turned into a backup in Minnesota, but if he signs with the Jets and can hold a starting role, he would be a solid number two or three running back.

Derrick Mason returning by Robert.Nightengale (2010-03-11 09:50:05)

Update: ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Baltimore Ravens WR Derrick Mason has been re-signed to a two-year, $8 million deal that includes $3.5 million in the first year. Mason briefly retired before the 2009-10 season, and hinted after the season that he might retire but has decided to come back to play for two more years. "This is outstanding, just great news for the Ravens. Our coaches are happy. Derrick's teammates are happy and you know Joe [Flacco] is smiling," said head coach John Harbaugh.

Fantasy Impact: Mason is one of the most reliable WR's in the league as he had 73 receptions last year for 1,028 yards and seven touchdowns. Mason is a good low-end number two WR option or high-end number three. His re-signing will cut a little bit into Ravens WR Anquan Boldin and WR Donte Stallworth's productivity and fantasy value, but this makes QB Joe Flacco look that much better.

Broncos Add Green, Williams by Mike.Black (2010-03-10 10:32:50)

Update: NFL.com reports that The Denver Broncos have come to terms with tackle Jamal Williams and added veteran end Jarvis Green, Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Fantasy Impact: Both players are veterans in the league and have shown they can consistently play at a high level.
